We participate in the General Motors and Texas State Technical College Body Service Education Program (BSEP). What is BSEP?
Body Service Educational Program is a General Motors/TSTC body repair program designed to produce highly trained and motivated entry-level collision repair technicians.  The curriculum, designed by GM and Texas State Technical College (TSTC), leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree.  The program is open to all collision industry shops and dealerships that are willing to sponsor students.

How long is the program?
The entire program takes approximately two years to complete, with about 60 percent of the time designated for technical and academic courses at TSTC.  The remaining time is allocated for on-the-job training at a sponsoring auto body facility.

What are BSEP's responsibilities?
Provide on-campus instruction in accordance with the approved BSEP curriculum
Provide academic advisement
Assist shops with student selection for program
Assist shop coordinators when planning learning experiences at the sponsoring dealership
Keep sponsoring shop apprised of student's academic progress
Maintain student scholastic records
Furnish program information when requested
What are the student's responsibilities?
Fulfill all employment requirements of sponsoring dealership or independent shop
Maintain academic standards
Participate in all learning activities at the scheduled times
Provide sponsoring shop with responsible and productive employee
Provide sponsoring shop with responsible and productive employee
Be responsible for program costs: tuition, fees, books, tools, housing, mileage, etc.
Wear sponsoring dealer or shop uniform during both college and cooperative work experience phases of the program
What are the sponsoring facility's responsibilities?
Indicate interest in being a sponsoring dealer
Interview and select prospective students
Provide "shop-coordinated work experience" in accordance with the program schedule and for the duration of the curriculum
Appoint an in-shop coordinator to help develop trainee to full productivity level and to work with the BSEP coordinator at TSTC
Pay trainee during periods of shop-coordinated work experience
Provide related work experience while at the shop that supplements the trainee's most recent instruction (when within shop's capacity to do so)
Provide the student employee with work uniforms
What are GM's responsibilities?
Provide GM training to involved TSTC instructors
Furnish TSTC with GM vehicles and components
Provide TSTC with essential training materials, including General Motors Training Center manuals
Oversee and participate in student selection procedure
Monitor all phases of BSEP to assure success
What are the entrance requirements for BSEP?
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
State-mandated testing requirements - Texas Academic Skills Program (TASP) Test or TSTC's Alternative Test or minimum qualifying standards on exit-level Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) Test, Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), or American College Test (ACT) - unless otherwise exempt as determined by the TSTC Career Exploration & Counseling Center
Employability by a GM dealership or independent repair facility
Pass a physical and drug test
Clean driving record
Desire and initiative to work hard

Tour TSTC, complete the interview and placement test
Complete employment application at the body shop
Apply for admission to BSEP at TSTC
